When and where are we going? We are going to Mexico June 13th–19th for our house-building ministry and we will have a team serving at the orphanage. All aspects of our trip are in partnership with Youth with a Mission (YWAM). The team flies into San Diego and then drives 6 hours to Vicente Guerrero!
What is the difference between the Orphanage and house build? The two trips are very different. The orphanage has a more structured schedule. The facility and the property are very nice. You meet the kids and adults that live and work there. The team is spread out between the different tasks during the day. You participate in scheduled outreaches in the community. The housebuilding trip has a looser schedule. The dorms and grounds are more rustic than the orphanage but very comfortable. We do evening outreach in the community and have opportunity for additional outreach during the day. You get to know the family you are building the house for. You work closely with your group and sometimes the family. No skills are needed for either trip. Both trips require flexibility and full days of service.
How much does it cost? Orphanage cost: $275 House build cost: $325. This fee will cover your room and board in Mexico. In addition, you will need to pay for your airfare to and from San Diego. That will run about $200. Expect that the total cost will be around $650 when you factor in travel insurance, gifts, etc.
When is money due and how do I submit it? The trip application, consent forms/waivers, and a deposit of $150 per person are due by March 1st. The remaining room and board fees are due by April 5th. We have made all the forms and payment available online this year for convenience and no contact registration. If you would like to write a check, please make payable to NLCF and write “Mexico Mission Trip Enrollment” in the memo line. Please mail or drop your check off to the New Life mailbox. You will buy airline tickets when prices are the lowest during the spring.
What happens if more people want to go than we have space for? Positions on the team are filled in the order in which applications with deposit payments are received. We keep a waiting list of those that want to go on the trip.
What if something happens and I can't go after I have paid? No refunds are available after April 10th.
Can my kids go? Yes, children can go. Minimum age is 10 years old.
What if I don’t speak Spanish? No problem. Your actions of love and kindness will overcome that barrier.
Is it safe to go to Mexico? Groups have been serving here for 25+ years without any safety issues.
Is it safe to eat the food and drink the water? Both the orphanage and house build facilities have filtered water. Our meals are prepared for us by the staff working at the orphanage and house build facility.
Do I need a passport? Yes, all team members must have a valid current passport in order to travel into Mexico.
How can I financially support Mexico missions? Each house costs $4,000 to build and we will need an additional $4,000 for outreach and ministry - our total fundraising goal is $8000. Those feeling called to support Mexico missions can make checks payable to New Life – please give the check directly to one of the team leaders below in order to ensure proper accounting, or you may give online here.
